I'm Back!

Sorry I haven't been my merry, blog-posting self. This winter's been a little tough for me, but now I'm ready to return to my doodling and posting. Hope you all have been enjoying your holidays :)

Eric's Portraits

So, my friend Eric Favela did these great portraits of Lou and me...he's a terrific artist, and I thought I'd share. His caricature of Lou is so dead-on it's scary.

He and my friend Laura Jane are now "affianced"! Congrats to those kids :)

My latest film...

"Pinky"

My first cut-out animation. The song I sing is a song my mom made up when she was a little girl, and used to sing to me. I always thought it was about a lonely little skunk. Made at Calarts, in part for my mom's birthday.

Happy Birthday Annette!

Those who know me well know that I am a little obsessed with Annette Funicello. Today is her birthday. She turns 67. I adore her, and wish her all the best. I listen to her music recordings on an unhealthy basis. She is magical.

Here's a crayon study I did of her from a Babes in Toyland still image. Happy birthday Annette!

Oh, I also wrote and recorded a song about Annette called "Americannette" with the Myonics. You can listen to it here.

My Dad Loves to Golf

This is my first stop-mo piece. I recorded the song without realizing that I said "also" and "too" in the same sentence in a part of the song. Oh well... Enjoy!

Beany the Ham Face

HamFace from Emily Brundige on Vimeo.

In all its hi-res glory!

The sound I used is a clip from the old Time for Beany puppet show from the late 40's/early 50's. The voices are characters Beany and Uncle Captain. Daws Butler did both voices. I recorded the sound off youtube onto my ipod. The purpose of this animation exercise was to get us used to animating to sound, rather than animating first, then adding sound later. I love this sound clip. The sound alone sounds really dirty (even though the original Time for Beany context wasn't at all). I really wanted to challenge myself not to make it dirty, so I thought of this TV dinner ham concept/guilty eater. I'm happy with how it turned out. More on the horizon!

Ham Face Animation Test

Animating in Flash for the first time (for realz), and I'm not sure what I'm doing or why there seems to be a lag in time. Oh well, I'll figure it out.

Tushyface

This is my first animation test done at CalArts. It's based on an idea I have for a tushy-faced baby named "Tushyface." It's pretty silly. Enjoy!

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Whoah.

Really?

I am looking forward to this bizarre film. The stop-motion design is far from what I expected. I expected a more stylized, skinnier look to the animals. Unfortunately, the stop-motion puppets (not so much here as in other stills) resemble CG to me, probably because of the digital lighting and shading effects that are now possible. I'm not sure. But I'm still looking forward to this film, mostly to see what an animated story looks like in Wes Anderson's hands.
