Forbidden Games (Jeux interdits)

Michel and Paulette.

Forbidden Games (Jeux interdits in French) is one of my favorite films. It is about a friendship between a little girl, Paulette, who is orphaned in a Nazi air attack, and Michel, a poor farmer boy who is a few years older. During the war, they try to make sense of death and loss by creating a pet cemetary, and nurturing it with crosses they steal from the town church. It is incredibly acted by the two young actors, particulary Paulette, who is played by Brigette Fossey. It is an amazing film. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out:

Rent it (there's a Critereon DVD now). Watch it. Love it.
