"Tick Tock Timecrow" by David Braun

Tick Tock Timecrow from David Braun on Vimeo.

A haunting little film made by my friend, David Braun.  The striking song recording, "Life's a Funny Proposition After All," is beautifully juxtaposed with vintage film footage and David's own hand-drawn character, the Timecrow.  Just wanted to share.

Hello Blog Readers!

I am working hard at finishing a paper about the animators and designers on Pee-wee's Playhouse, as well as developing my thesis film.  Also, *sigh*...working on many other assignments for classes.  I swear this all to be true.

Lipsynch test with Emily puppet

This is just a test for lipsynch with my new stop-mo puppet--still in progress.  Not a very well-animated test, but oh well, next time :)

A pro golfer, a nightclub, and nunchucks.

For my first Storyboarding class assignment, each of us had to choose a random person, place, and thing from paper bags, and then create a story using the words we picked in three storyboard panels (beginning, middle, and end).

Do you get what's going on in my story?

Thesis Film Concept Drawings

Hi friends!  I don't want to reveal too much about my thesis film yet, as it's very young in conception, but here are some drawings I did for it.  I'm going to start making a puppet based on the girl (below drawing) next week--I can't wait!  I love using my hands to create little people, like God.

Rock Biter Misses His Gourmet Rocks

Ideas of decay and emptiness in this scene from The Neverending Story.  Also, the Rock Biter as inspiration for a character in my thesis film.

It's true...

Stefan Glerum's Work

Just semi-randomly happened upon this guy's website.  He's a Dutch illustrator based in Amsterdam.  DAM, he's good!  I love his use of color and the way his drawing style feels both geometric and organic at the same time.

Funky Funk

Sunset Junque Shop in Michigan.  My housemate, David, told me about this bizarre thrift shop/someone's property in South Haven, Michigan.  Here is the website: Sunset Junque Shop.  On it, I found these wondrous and mysterious pictures of the kinds of junk offered in their "shop."

In identifying my fascination with Sunset's acquired junk, I find myself again, close to my thesis film subject, which should be revealed somewhat later on.

The Late Joe Ranft

Joe: "I had more ideas than the ability to draw them."

This quote comes from the brand-spanking-new book, Two Guys Named Joe, by John Canemaker.  In reading the book (which is super enjoyable),  I'm starting to feel a kinship to the late Ranft, who was an inspiring storyteller with a sort of a dark, twisted artistic side.  But his words which I connected to most are in the quote above.  Currently, my drawing skills aren't yet strong enough to support my many ideas.  I will keep trying to work at this problem...

Sorry about the crappy drawing,

I didn't have my wacom tablet and pen on me.
